Papa's Memory: The Smurfs

Papa's Memory allows you to test your memory skills. Each time the light goes out, a new item is added to the floor. Your job is to pick the right one as quickly as possible. Each item is shown at the bottom of the screen. Pick the new one out of the lineup until 10 items are down.

I found it harder to do the second time around, since I remembered the items the first time, so if you want a challenge, keep playing.

McDonalds Sim

The McDonald RPG (simulator/spoof) puts you in charge of running McDonalds. From the boardroom, to the cattle yard. Your job, of course, is to maximize profits, but don't let those evironmental wackos slow you down.

There are four screens to deal with. The agricultural sector, feed lot, the fast food restaurant, and the board room. Each has it's share of problems to deal with. You have to grow the soy and cows in the agricultural sector by buying the land and placing the cows or soy on it. Once the cows get large enough, they will be sent to the feed lot. Don't let any diseased or mad cow cows get slaughtered in this stage. They'll infect your customers, hurting the bottom line.

Once the cows are slaughtered, you need to serve your customers. Keep your employees in line with rewards, discipline, or just fire them outright. In the board room, use those creative marketers to increase your customers. Keep the PR group hopping, combatting those evironmentalists and nuts who think you're poisoning them. But most important of all is to keep the board members happy. After all, they're the ones who can fire you.

There's a very steep learning curve, so keep your cool. It may take a few tries to keep your job for longer than a few months. You'll get fired if you put the company in the red ($-30,000). As far as I can tell, that's the only way to end the game?

New Metal Slug

New Metal Slug is a great shooter, with tense exciting music. It's based on the Metal Gear series, hence the name. Free the old men for bonus items and better weapons. By the way, your up close and personal weapon of choice is a large skillet pan.

New Metal Slug is a great game. If I were rating games, this would get a 5/5 for an online flash game. The directions are in japanese, so good luck trying to figure out the menu items. Just keep clicking on things until you can start the game.

The controls are simple, W for move/aim left, A for duck/aim down, W for aim up, D for move/aim right. Use J to shoot, K to jump and L to throw a grenade (if you have one).

Play New Metal Slug at theflashgames.

Warthog Launch

Warthog launch (also called warthog jumping) challenges you to solve a simple puzzle. How many grenades do I need to launch this warthog up into the air and hit those targets?

You can control the number of grenades placed underneath your warthog (i.e. how high will it fly), position the grenades (what is it's launch angle) and where to place your warthog before it gets launched (initial starting point for the launch). The graphics are simple but this game is slightly addicting. You will keep on trying just one more level.

One billion mazes

OK, I find this to be a little bit weird, but this site has one billion mazes that you can print out (pdf files) and solve. On page one is the maze. On page two is the solution to the maze.

Mission at Dawn

Mission at Dawn (shockwave) puts you in control of a rescue chopper. There's an SOS at dawn. Despite the fog, your mission is to pick up the capsized souls slowly freezing in the atlantic, just off the coast.

Mission at Dawn has some great 3D graphics, but is lacking in some realism. Don't worry about the ship's spars, for instance, catching onto your rescue bin (space bar to lower). Just keep your chopper hovering over the people, and you should be fine. You can only rescure 4 people at a time, so head back to the base, drop them off (just land... the people magically disappear) and head back out.

Hints: look carefully around the ship for survivors, the ship can block them from view.

Sandman Game

Sandman is a lemmings clone. Keep your sleepers away from the nightmares, and don't let them fall into the water. Your primary job is to lead them from one dream to another. Unfortunately, your only tool is dropping sand.

To drop sand, just left click. The sleepers will not walk through the sand falling, so if you need to keep them away from someplace (<- hint for level two), then drop some sand. You may be able to drop sand onto a spot that's 'invisible'. Also, don't let your sleepers fall too far.

Play Sandman Game at mousebreaker. If you liked lemmings, you'll like this game.

Cutie Quake is Quake made cute, of course. Shoot anything that moves and leave no creature behind.

Hints: shoot the creatures with guns. They're the ones you have to worry about. You get more points for headshots.

3D Hyperjet Racing

3D Hyperjet Racing is worth trying out just for the background images. You race high above a futuristic city in a hyperjet. In order to win the race, you have to pick up the hyper boosts. Do that and you're home free.

Pick your favorite car, each has it's advantages and disadvantages. Controls are simple with left, right, accelerate (up arrow) and brakes (down arrow... as if you were going to brake!).

Play 3D Hyperjet Racing at homebrew.

Reverse Bounce, Addictive Online Game

I think the title pretty much says it all, but here are the details. Use the left arrow to move right, and the right arrow to move left. Sounds easy, right?

Well, what happens when the ball shoots off to the right and you your instinct is to move right. Well, you hit the right arrow button reflexively and boom.. you shoot off in the wrong direction.

There are plenty of little tricks and traps to keep you interested in each new level.

If you can manage to overcome your trained instincts in this game, it will probably ruin you for other games. Very addictive, but should entertain you during your lunch hour. Also, I like the funky background.

Makos is like Tetris and bubbles and jewels, but with a twist. This time you can move the rows or the columns in order to line up three or more creatures of the same color. I had fun with this one. It's definitely addicting.

Objective: Help the little forest creatures. Form groups of at least three of the same color to set them free.

Controls: Click and pull or push the line or columns to form the groups.

Hints: the creatures sometimes get locked together... Try to unlock by freeing them. Also, matching three or more isn't necessarily all in a row You can go across then down (an L shape).

If you register, you can leave a message in the shoutbox (that's up to you... I'm never very keen about passing out my e-mail).

Prince of Persia

Prince of Persia available as a free online game. This is the old (early 90's) version. You (the Prince) must save the world from the evil Vizier who, in eight minutes, will release the Sands of Time magic, corrupting all the soldiers.

I remember playing this game for hours (on a friend's computer) and getting extremely frustrated by it. The Prince is hard to control and it can be very frustrating to get so far, and then have to start all over again. But, once I finished the game, I really felt like I had accomplished something.

Hints and Tips: Walk (hold the shift key) through the spikes on the floor. Also, approach any soldiers slowly as you need to let the computer shift you into combat mode. There's nothing more frustrating than running into an enemy soldier, except when you accidently shift (press down key) out of combat mode in the middle of a fight.

It helps if you learn where the poisons are and where the health potions are.

Space bar will make you jump forward.

Slowly approach any big (two story) drops. Turn around and hang onto the ledge before dropping down in order to save some health.

Don't face off against any soldiers until you have a sword to face them with!

Undead the Mistletoe

Undead the Mistletoe places you at the Christmas party at ACME Inc. Everything was going well until the evil Doctor Drako spiked the party punch, temporarily turning the staff into zombies! It's up to you to save the day. On each floor of the building you'll find one of the letters A N T I D O T and E. Collect each one in turn and take the lift to the next floor. Collect all eight to win the game. Collect presents on the way for extra points, and work fast because there's a time bonus! Good luck.

This is a cute, short game that should entertain you for a while. Try to avoid jumping up into the zombies (which I find a litte unfair... You can't jump through the floor above you, but you can die if the zombie is there).

Play Undead the Mistletoe at 3form.

Spike Boy

Spike boy is a mario game remake. Your objective is to save the kids, but don't get hit by the enemy 'blobs'. There are some interesting differences here, drinks to get big or small. You can't just jump on the enemies, etc... But all in all, you will feel like you've played this game before.

Avoid the spike on the ground, but some of the 'treasure' is hidden behind the scenery, i.e. bushes and trees.

Alpha attack pits you against an alien invasion force, complete with bombing runs, spaceships and ... zeppelins?

If you feel like practicing your typing skills, this is the game for you. Protect your city from the bombs by punching in the right letter for each bomb. If there's a bomb with a letter 'B', then hit the 'B' key. In some levels, the bombs will have numbers instead. I found those to be easier, since you can use the number pad.

Tips: The zeppelins are destroyed by typing in numbers, but it doesn't matter to the zeppelin which order the numbers are typed in. But, your score for destroying it is.
If the numbers are 138, and you type 831, you'll get 831 points.

Also, the farther you let the bombs fall, the higher your possible score for destroying each individual bomb (up to 100). Just don't let them hit your buildings.

Accuracy counts, so don't just mash away at the keyboard.

Zombie Horde 2

Can you survive in the jungle for several days fighting off the zombie hordes? Zombie horde 2 is a top-down kill'em all flash game. Some missions require you to survive and others to protect objects.

Move your character using asdw keys. Fire your primary weapons with the left mouse button. Space bar will shoot your secondary weapon. Use Q and E to cycle through your weaponry. Don't forget to reload using r.

Tips: try not to waste bullets. If you can kill your opponent with the knife, then do so. You'll need the ammunition later.

Asteroids, snake, tetris, space invaders, and chopper challenge. Come play some old time games thanks to bloggers united. While you're there, feel free to stop in the bloggers forum.

The games are exactly as you remember. Or, at least for us old-timers, as we like to remember them... :-) I can't believe how much money I spent on these games when I was young. Or how much time I spent playing them. But then, I'm still willing to play them today...

Scraper Caper

Scraper Caper is all about the important things in life, and that is Lunch! Unfortunately, you've forgotten your lunch up on top of the scraper being built. So get your oversized belly in gear and get your lunch back. Get some bonus points by hitting those snacks along the way.

Hint: The hook can be jumped over... In other words, the line that drops the hook can be jumped through. Also use your belly rumbles (the best name for an offensive weapon I've seen) wisely. Don't waste them on targets you can just jump over.
